Prof. S. Muthukkaruppan has been conferred a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Society for Technical Education (Tamil Nadu & Pondicherry Chapter) on December 10, 2015 at an event held in Coimbatore, India.
Prof. Muthukkaruppan has always been very active in our Northern California Nagarathar community and has participated in many NSNA and NCNA events and programs. We sincerely thank him for his contributions to engineering, technology and our community.

Excerpts from a biography of Prof. S Muthukkaruppan from which the citation was read at the event held in Coimbatore
Professor Muthukkaruppan was born on 13 March 1940 at Devakottai in Tamil Nadu, India. He has been academically brilliant which started with a district first in SSLC. He graduated in B.E. Electrical Engineering from Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering, Karaikudi in 1961. Later he went to IIT Delhi for his M.Tech. His project work on phase shifter at IIT Delhi is the module on which Electronic Research Development Laboratory built their Phased Array Radar.
His technical career started in Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) in 1961. Neyveli was then a barren land. He served at NLC for two years. The Indo-China war motivated him to join Indian Air Force (IAF) in 1963. He served in Assam, Punjab, Gujarat and Karnataka in airfields, communication networks and radar stations. He served as a faculty member in Air Force Technical College and trained many commissioned officers in technical subjects and modern equipment.
He was in the design team for indigenous development of an airborne jammer pod at Defence Electronic Research Laboratory, Hyderabad. The jammer functioned successfully at the very first air trial where as normally 3 to 4 trials take place before proving the equipment.
Having served 26 years in IAF and with rank of Wing Commander, he turned to his passion for teaching. He joined Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE), Sriperumpudur in 1989 as Head-of-Department, Computer Science and was Principal from 1993 to 2015. His academic knowledge, administrative skill and leadership quality combined with commitment and cooperation of faculty and staff made SVCE a college to look forward by parents, students and even persons starting new engineering college.
He has served in many roles in University of Madras and Anna University. Some of them are listed below.
