About Us
We are a voluntary association of Nagarathars who live in Northern California region in the USA. Nagarathars are natives of the Chettinad region in state of Tamil Nadu, India.
The birth of NCNA:
Northern California Nagarathar Association was established in November 2006. In response to popular demand by Nagarathars living in Northern California the local association was formed in 2006. The objective of forming NCNA was to provide a forum for members of the community that live thousands of miles away from their native Chettinad. The intention was to provide a venue for children to meet each other, understand the Nagarathar culture, share ideas and collectively participate in traditional celebrations and community activities. To continue the tradition, it was believed that NCNA would help members think globally and act locally.
Pongal 2007 marked the beginning of this humble endeavor. Since the formation of NCNA, the community has come together for traditional celebrations, cultural activities, and local community service. The children continue to benefit from the activities organized by NCNA. Through organized events the Association emphasizes the importance of Nagarathar culture, heritage and tradition.
NCNA Mission:
An association of Nagarathars of Northern California, organized to participate in charitable events, to preserve and promote the heritage and culture of Nagarathars of Chettinad.
We are committed to creating our own space to assemble in San Francisco Bay Area in California.
